Emily's Getting Fancy

Mama's Got a New Pair of Shoes

Ok, she didn't really buy these, but she had fun trying them on.

We had a girls night last night. We ate at Granite City Brewery in CR and then did some shopping at Target. Good times...good times.

Emily's Carpet Skates

While Em is here, we exchanged Christmas gifts. We knew we HAD to get her her very own pair of Carpet Skates, after all the hoopla she made about our boys' ones. Some of her Austin friends are even getting ready for her return by purchasing their own pairs! I hope she doesn't seriously hurt herself, or anyone else.

The First of Many Moments....

So Emily, my sister, has been visiting from Texas, and there's been lots of laughing and fun times. It started with a midnight run to the airport to pick her up - all us girls had to go, because we couldn't do anything practical or sensible like just one of us go. Her flight was late, so we didn't get home until after 1! We've gotten to hear her sing at church - always a pleasure - and we've exchanged Christmas gifts. We got together with our Charles City family at a hotel for food, swimming and good conversation. Last night it got late, and my mom got silly. Here's what happened:

Let it be known that something comes over this woman whenever she gets near any type of microphone. Also, she should probably never be given a gun (or carpet skates for that matter.)
There are more fun videos to come - including Emily with her very own new pair of Carpet Skates (Merry Christmas!), sledding and a laughing contest.

Max Dancing

This song is from the end of Wall-E, and we're all just in love with it - the song and the movie. We rented the movie from netflix and have watched it 5 or 6 times - each time making sure to listen to the entire Peter Gabriel song while the credits are rolling. Max especially loves it. Notice one foot goes more than the other.

Sidenote: The other night some awards show was on tv and I was flipping channels and came across it as they were announcing the nominees for best original song from a movie. The Wall-E song started playing and Max came running out from the kitchen and started dancing - it was obvious that he recognized it! BTW, it didn't win.

Isn't This The Cutest Snowman You've Ever Seen?!

Drama

Sam can be quite dramatic and sensitive. On Monday he told his teacher and me (and anyone else who would listen) that it was the most "terrible, terrible, terrible day" because he didn't get a turn playing with a tractor at recess time. He complained about it all the rest of the day.

On Tuesday he came crying to me because Will was bossing him around wanting him to help him find a missing DS game. Sam told me in tears, "I just want my life back!" It about broke my heart that he was feeling that strongly over something so minor.

This morning I was apologizing to Sam for him being late to school. (Max slept horrible again and I could not get moving.) When I explained what had happened, Sam said, "It's not your fault." Then to Max, "Max, you are all kinds of trouble! But we love you anyways, Babyhead!"

What am I going to do with him?! I'm just thanking God that he's not a girl. Can you imagine?!

Little Beggar and Big Brother

This fake, whiny, fussy begging is a little bit cute, but not really. I'll be glad when he starts talking more. I've been working on "please" with him, but so far no luck.

This was our first attempt at using our new ice cream maker but since I used half and half instead of heavy cream, it never froze until I put it in the freezer - then it was like an icecube until we set it out awhile to thaw. We ate it anyway - and it was still pretty good - we added oreo cookies. Next time I'll have to use heavy cream and see if that works better.

Naughty Doggy

...got into the kitchen trash while we were all back in the bedrooms getting ready for church. Tore stuff up, got into some food scraps, and strewn it all around the dining room. But guess who gets the last laugh? She gets to walk around looking like this:
because what she didn't know was that she was also getting into Damon's white paint clean-up stuff. That'll teach her.
